Fixed Orthopaedic Braces

Rapid Maxillary Expander (RME)

Some patients require a Rapid Maxillary Expander (RME) as part of their treatment, in order to correct an uneven bite. The screw is activated twice a day for 2-3 weeks and very quickly expands the upper jaw. At the end of 2-3 weeks, a gap will have formed between the upper front incisors. The RME is left in place for 3-6 months to allow the teeth to settle in their new positions and for the gap between the upper central incisors to close.

Twin Force ® Bite Corrector Appliance

Twin Force Bite Correctors are similar to the Herbst Appliance and this revolutionary appliance is  used in combination with train tracks.

HERBST APPLIANCE

This appliance is a fixed version of Twin Blocks (hyperlink). One of the most common problems orthodontists treat is the discrepancy that occurs when the upper teeth protrude beyond the lower. Ordinarily, when we see a patient with the upper teeth protruding, we tend to think that the upper jaw and teeth are too far forward; but more often than not, this condition is due to a small lower jaw that is further back than it should be. With these patients, we encourage the lower jaw’s growth to catch up using the Herbst appliance.
